Black-out in Varazdin

A city has been thrown into chaos after a fire at an electricity substation cut all power.Varazdin in the north of Croatia ground to a halt at 8.29 am this morning when a fuse short-circuited and caught on fire.Firemen are battling to extinguish the blaze and authorities say they won't be able to begin repairs until the fire has been put out, the Croatian daily Jutarnji List reports.

Croatian contemporary drama to be presented in New York

"New voices in Croatian drama" has been chosen as the title of a programme representing contemporary Croatian drama in the US.The programme, which will take place on 13th May in the famous New York's Martin E. Segal Theatre Centre, will be a presentation of cultural events in contemporary Croatian drama, theatre and literature.Guests will include Tena Štivičić and Ivana Sajko, while a multimedia lecture on contemporary Croatian theare and drama will be held by Jasen Boko.

Explosion in family home in Dalmatia

A family had a lucky escape after a bomb was set off at their home in the early hours of this morning.Ivan R., 412, his wife and two children were asleep when the exposion ripped through their family home in Kastel Stari (Dalmatia) around 3am.The explosion destroyed the front door and ground floor windows, the Croatian daily Vecernji List writes.The police are investigating.

Austrian Croat minority claim tamburitza world record

Croat tries to steal ambulance after doctors helped him

A man in Croatia tried to steal an ambulance after doctors had helped him.The 23-year-old man shocked emergency-room doctors in the western town of Porec by first asking for help after drinking too much alcohol and then on his way home from hospital breaking one of an ambulance's windows in an attempt to steal it.He tried to start the engine, but police stopped him before he could drive away, the daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija has reported.

America supports President´s apology over Croatia´s role in war in Bosnia
