PM Kosor to meet U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden today

Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor is expected to meet with U.S. vice-president Joe Biden today (Tue) during a two-day official visit to Washington D.C.The two leaders are expected to discuss Croatia's entrance into the EU, the NATO alliance, the country's economic reforms and the fight against corruption.Kosor's visit just ten or so months after she took over as PM in July of last year and just a month and a half after a meeting with Obama in Prague, has been evaluated positively in American political and diplomatic circles as a sign of the deep alliance between the two countries, the Croatian daily Vecernji List reports. The Obama administration has not hidden its wish to see Croatia in the EU as soon as possible and its reliance on Zagreb as an ally in Europe's southeast. The PM can expect the U.S. president to inquire about the fight against organised crime and relations with the neighbouring countries. It is expected that Biden will also give his support for the reforms that the country has made so far on its way to Brussels and to express a wish that negotiations finish by the end of the year. He is also expected to congratulate the government on its efforts to combat corruption, the Croatian daily Vecernji List writes. The PM Kosor will also attend a reception organised in her honour by the Congressional Croatian Caucus headed by George Radanovich and Peter Viscloskym.
