Ivanisevic to meet McEnroe in Dubrovnik

Tennis greats John McEnroe and Goran Ivanisevic are set to play each other in Dubrovnik's ancient square this July.The former Wimbledon champions will meet four days after this year's Wimbledon final.The humanitarian match has been scheduled for 8 July and the money raised will be forwarded to a local hospital.The match in the centuries old square in front of Knezev Dvor (the Count's Court) is also expected to attract international celebrities.

Building area on sale in Zadar

Croatia has put 19,300 square metres of building area in the city of Zadar up for sale, the UK Trade and Investment website announced on Friday.The starting price is 53,903.835 HRK (1£=8.5HRK). The deadline for the submission of offers is 3 June.The UK Trade and Investment website has described the area as a typical fortification zone with the former fortification, former barracks, former industry and sports and municipal activities. The aim is to transform the area into a modern city centre with shopping centres, offices, hotels as well as other touristic attractions and a garage for 1,500 vehicles.

British war veterans visit Vis again

British WWII veterans are heading to the remote Croatian island of Vis next week to pay tribute to their fallen colleagues who died fending off Nazi troops.The former marine and Royal Navy commandos will be joined by the British Ambassador to Croatia, David Blunt, when they arrive for their two day visit on 25 and 26 May.Some 6,000 British commandos and Royal Navy seamen took part in operations at Vis in 1943 and 1944 defending the island from attacking German forces during the Adriatic campaign.The WWII veterans return every year to mark the event.

Goverment abolishes free transportation for Parliamentary representatives

Comic Festival attracts tourists to Makarska

With eggs against medically-assisted fertilization laws

Hundreds of eggs left in various public places across Croatia and the United States have marked the beginning of a protest called: "Ministers, my eggs are not to be thrown away."The action has been organised by Udruga Roda (Stork Organisation) as a protest against medically-assisted reproduction laws, in particular the provision that limits fertilization to three egg cells.Croatian law also bans embryo freezing. Activists protest against EBRD in Zagreb

Bus full of children catches fire

A school bus full of children caught fire around 2pm today (Mon) in Dijanes near Zagreb."It was frightening, a true disaster.  The bus was standing at a stop when one woman noticed it was on fire. She notified the driver who luckily was able to evacuate the children in time. We tried to extinguish the flames, but we couldn't," a witness said.None of the 30 students on board were injured, the Croatian daily Vecernji List reports.

Black-out in Varazdin

A city has been thrown into chaos after a fire at an electricity substation cut all power.Varazdin in the north of Croatia ground to a halt at 8.29 am this morning when a fuse short-circuited and caught on fire.Firemen are battling to extinguish the blaze and authorities say they won't be able to begin repairs until the fire has been put out, the Croatian daily Jutarnji List reports.

Explosion in family home in Dalmatia
