Union unites Homeland War veterans and anti-fascism fighters

A union that would combine veterans associations from the Homeland War (199-1995) and those of the anti-fascist struggles in the area of Zagreb will be formed on Friday, the groups future president Igor Jagnic has announced.Jagnic said that the goal is to have five strong associations that would successfully represent interests of all veterans, instead of over 200 that currently exist. The idea for such an organization exists since 1993, Jagnic said, but until now there were no suitable conditions to unite those that had defended Croatia regardless of the war in which they served. The Union would first and foremost try to ensure employment for the veterans, through a cooperative that operates in several market segments and through a small furniture factory."We do not want the veteran population - regardless of the war in which they fought for Croatian interests – to be called parasites. This union expects to have 1,000 members, and in addition to Zagreb, the founding meetings will be held in Sisak and Split," he told the Croatian daily Vecernji List. All political parties gave us their support for the Union's creation, including the President Ivo Josipovic.
