Firefighting pilot may be sanctioned for wearing jeans on duty

Major Marijan Batarilovic will not be disciplined for taking the initiative and extinguishing a fire near a cattle farm in Zadar without first requesting permission. Instead, he will be sanctioned for wearing jeans while doing so.Major Batarilovic and Brigadier Ivan Selak were flying in a fire-fighting aircraft to contain a fire on June 15. After they ended one mission, they noticed a different fire spreading near a cattle farm close to Zadar. They informed their supervisors of their intention to extinguish that fire as well but did so without receiving permission, angering them.Military top brass decided to stop disciplinary proceedings against the two men after public outrage over their intention to punish them. But, as Jutarnji List has reported, the brass decided that Batarilovic deserved some form of punishment as he had acted unprofessionally. That is why they decided to start disciplinary proceedings for - inappropriate dress! Batarilovic had apparently been wearing jeans rather than the prescribed military uniform when he extinguished the fire.On the other hand, the American military decided to decorate a soldier who ran out in his boxers to guard his troops' position in Afghanistan after his photo was published in the New York Times.
