Mega shopping center opens in Zagreb
The mega shopping area Arena Centar opened its doors yesterday (Thu) to the throngs of VIP customers who rushed to get a sneak peak at some of the world-famous brands now in Croatia for the first time.Massimo Dutti, Zara Home and GAP are some of the newcomers to the Croatian market, the daily Jutarnji List writes. The new centre located in Croatia's capital Zagreb is one of the largest regional investments totalling 350 million Euros. It was built by the Hungarian company TriGranit in a record 15 months. At the ceremonial opening, the finance minister Djuro Popijac said that the success of the project refutes the widespread theory that investments in Croatia are not worthwhile."I hope that the successful completion of this project will be an encouragement for other investors to recognize that Croatia is a desirable and a profitable investment destination," the Minister said. His Hungarian counterpart Gyorgy Matolcsy added that the Arena Centar is a good example of central European regional cooperation. If countries like Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia and Czech Republic continue in this direction, they could have a very important role in the European Union. As part of the ceremonies, Zagreb's mayor Milan Bandic received a key made out of thousand-year-old wood that had been found during the construction. The Centar opened its doors to the general public this morning (Fri) at 9am.
