Croatian company directors are the most pessimistic in the region, a study by Deloitte accounting and consulting group finds.Out of six countries surveyed for the "Indicator of attitudes in the business sector" research, Croatia seems to have the most business leaders who do not believe in better days on the horizon. Almost two thirds of them think that general economic conditions will worsen in the next six months while a fifth has a negative view of their company's near future.A slightly higher optimism is recorded when it comes to investment in capital goods (IT, equipment, new infrastructure). Almost half of those surveyed said they will increase capital investments in the next six months, with only ten percent saying that they would decrease them.Expectations about the employment remain negative, with 44 percent predicting further workforce reductions and only seven percent wanting to hire more people, the Croatian daily Vecernji List writes.Although the majority of their regional colleagues expect a rise in sales revenue in the next six months, almost three quarters of Croatian directors believe the revenues will stay the same or fall. Also registered was a fall in the percentage of those planning to introduce new products in the next year from 67 percent to 57 percent. But Croatian directors show the same optimism as their regional counterparts when it comes to availability of loans - there seem to be three times as many optimists as pessimists, the study finds.
