President Ivo Josipovic has warned against reducing Croatia's security forces following other cuts demanded by the government's economic recovery programme.Speaking at the commemoration of Croatia's Victory Day (August 4th), the President backed the government programme but once again reiterated that the burden of economic recovery must be divided equally, with the brunt borne by those with most means. He warned, however, against cutting down on the country's security forces. "Our security must not be smaller than today," he said.At the event commemorating operation Storm which brought the end to the Homeland War (1991-1995), Josipovic said the victory had enabled Croatia's citizens to enjoy a country that is sovereign, a member of the NATO Alliance and a soon-to-be member of the European Union. He said that in the times of peace, knowledge is the greatest weapon and that government should give this its utmost attention, the Croatian daily Vecernji List writes.
